Refined lactic acid 88 food grade is an organic acid derived from milk, beets, or other plant sources. It is an odorless, colorless, acidic liquid. It is used in food, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products, as well as in industrial applications. In food and beverage applications, it is used as a preservative, flavor enhancer, and pH adjuster. In pharmaceuticals, it can be used as a chelating agent, buffering agent, and preservative. In industrial applications, it is used in metal and textile processing, as an electrolyte in batteries, and as a cleaning agent.
