White Portland cements produce clean, bright colors, especially for light pastels. Many different colors can be created by adding pigments to concrete made with white Portland cement. Two or more pigments can be combined to achieve a wide range of colors. White Portland cement (or a mixture of white and gray cement) can be specified to provide a consistent color of choice. An even greater variety of decorative looks can be achieved by using colored aggregates and varying the surface finish treatment or texture

White Portland cement is used in combination with inorganic pigments to produce brightly colored concretes and mortars. Ordinary cement, when used with pigments, produces colors that may be attractive, but are somewhat dull. With white Portland cement, bright reds, yellows and greens can be readily produced. Blue concrete can also be made, at some expense. The pigments may be added at the concrete mixer. Alternatively, to guarantee repeatable color, some manufacturers supply ready-blended colored cements, using white Portland cement as a base.
