Targeted metabolomics is an approach to detect specific compound(s) using QQQ Mass Spec and quantify using chemical standards. This process achieve accurate identification and absolute quantification of the target metabolites. In constrast with global metabolomics profiling, targeted metabolomics assay is highly specific, sensitive, and accurate to quantify the metabolite of interest in the sample. Metware offers wide variety of targeted metabolomics assay with panels for disease related compounds, lipids, and key plant metabolites such as anothocyanins and hormones.
Targeted Metabolomics Service General Knowledge
Metware's metabolomics targeted and untargeted approach uses LC-MS with chemical standards to obtain absolute quantification of a set compounds in the sample. Each standard is prepared using a series of dilutions to generate a standard curve. The quantity of the compound in each sample is calculated from the standard curve. Targeted metabolomics analysis is often used when only a specific set of metabolites need to be detected and accurately quantified. It is also the gold standard to validate metabolite quantification from global metabolome profiling data.
What Is the Difference Between Targeted and targeted Metabolomics?
TARGETED
Metabolomics using standards can detect a few known metabolites with high sensitivity, and high precision. It relies on chemical standards to produce a titration curve to obtain absolute quantification. Targeted Metabolomics aims to validate the differences in various samples.
UNTARGETED METABOLOMICS
untargeted vs targeted metabolomics can detect hundreds or thousands of metabolites (known or unknown). It relies on a metabolite database to annotate high-resolution mass spec data to know metabolites. Untargeted Metabolomics results in relative quantification that aims to discover significant differences between samples or groups.
